Position Title:Nursing Clinical Informaticist

Department:Nursing Administration

Job Description:

The Nursing Clinical Informaticist works to optimize the adoption and efficient use of clinical data and health information technology by nurses and clinical team members at OU Health. The Nursing Clinical Informaticist will lead the training and workflow optimization of clinical application systems including the electronic health record (EHR) in support of data-driven continuous improvement in clinical operations, quality and safety, and clinician and patient experience. They function as a knowledgeable consultant, educator, and evaluator to maintain and improve system services, and train and mentor clinician users to become better technology consumers. They will serve in an operational role and will be responsible for supporting initial and ongoing training and development of health information systems that assist clinicians in the delivery of safe, effective and high quality patient care consistent with the values, mission and long-term strategic plan of OU Health.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support training of OU Health clinical information systems for initial clinician onboarding and ongoing optimization.
  • Perform ongoing assessment to ensure clinical data and information technology are meeting the needs of the clinicians by directly interacting with clinical staff daily.
  • Solicit and respond to user concerns about system functionality.
  • Function as a liaison to clinically focused committees, making recommendations for planning and development of clinical systems.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors for application optimization and development purposes. Attend vendor training as needed. Attend vendor user groups and conferences.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, physician informaticists, other clinical and nursing informaticists and clinical departments to build and/or oversee the configuration of systems to support the workflow of all users.
  • Continuously engage stakeholders and clinicians to facilitate the adoption of systems and related processes.
  • Actively participate in testing and validation of systems and system components.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master of Science in Nursing preferred

Experience:

Proven track record of clinical leadership in the enhancement and support of clinical information systems including the electronic health record.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:

Active RN License required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of information technology fundamental concepts including web, cloud services, mobile apps, wireless communication, software development, wearable devices, preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, one-on-one, and as part of a diverse team to deliver high-quality and efficient results.
  • Experience in leading optimization of health IT systems at a tertiary/quaternary care organization, preferred.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
